Dear Fire District Commissioner:
On March 13, 2023, Governor Murphy signed the following bill into law:
S297, Greenstein (D-Mercer)/A493, Murphy (D-Burlington)- Requires public agencies and government contractors to report cybersecurity incidents to New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
This bill requires ALL public agencies of the State and any political subdivision thereof to report any malicious or suspicious event occurring through a computer network that jeopardizes the integrity, confidentiality or availability of an information system or the information the system processes, stores or transmits, to the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, within 72 hours of the incident. This of course includes fire districts.
It went into effect 30 days after becoming law, so approximately June 13, 2023. Here is the link to the page on the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness Website where cybersecurity incidents should be reported.
